Fixing stuff around yourself.

Whilst in the process of moving between countries, our house right now is a complete mess. I write this laying in my bed examining the room; a room littered with tape rolls, shopping bags, wrapping paper etc. Too lazy to clean the entire room, I opt for the nearest and easiest task available, cleaning the bedside table.

As evident from the picture above, the table is in a dire state. Scattered across it are skin care products and various accessories (oh, and a random jar of nutella too) which makes it look messy and congested. Though, with a little bit of effort, I can make it look good as new!

I started placing things orderly, threw away the trash and made more that enough room to place my laptop (and perhaps a nice cup of hot coffee if I feel like it). Even though it may be a small task and I still have the rest of the room to take care of, cleaning this one table gave me a sense of progress and achievement; a strange form of catharsis. It allows me to feel better about cleaning the rest of the room as well, even if I won’t be staying here much longer. Would I have done it in spite of you asking? I would say yes. Would it be at the same time I had done it now? It’s entirely possible, although my procrastinating side might’ve gotten the better of me and delayed the process.

The task would’ve been completed sooner or later. I see myself as a leader of my own life, so I decided to take initiative and accomplish it without being given directions by a separate authority. I decided to take responsibility of my surrounding and finish this task. And as Amal Academy has taught me, this act alone makes me a leader!
